Tomatillo, Mexican Green Tomato

An annual in cool climates, it is a sprawling bush that can be tied up like a vine, It has small green fruits which have a papery husk. The fruit is the ingredient for the original Salsa Verde, and also for Fried Green Tomatoes. The fruit is best eaten green and cooked.  Once it goes yellow, it loses its firmness and flavour. It would look good in hanging baskets and can be grown easily in containers.

It is hardy and loves the heat.
